Common Amenities of PetroPalace Apartments, BPCL
Karingachira

Designing the common areas of an Apartment is not quite same as designing for a specific client. The aesthetics have to have a universal appeal and strike a chord with the dwellers, while not being definitive. Lobby spaces of the Entrance, Lift, Common Amenities, Club House were given significant design features. The entrance was along Water Feature wall leading to a geometric mural with traditional Terracotta tiles and Bronze Mirror pieces. Our objective was to give the building identity and appeal encouraging a community spirit and social cohesion. The communal spaces were designed to feel fresh and exciting to create a social environment. Lighting was attributed to a pivotal role in each designed space.

The interior design elements of the apartment of a versatile couple were selected to complement the pale and subtle shades while refreshing the space with contemporary finishes, furnishings, lighting and accessories. An old dining table was peeled off its color to get the original cedar wood tone; stacking side tables were de-stressed to add to the charm. Door knobs were specifically selected.

Fine finishes embellish the entire Duplex apartment for a Doctor and Dancer couple. A palette of traditional colours: green, orange, gentle beige and rich teak wood with terracotta was chosen. Deeply conscious of the Bodhi principle, the enlightenment of Buddha has been captured in terracotta and serves as one of the focal points of the design. Fabrics for the drapes, furniture and accessories selected were all textured, including luxurious blinds, smooth cotton and delicate silks. The Kitchen in green takes one’s breath away. The furniture except for the recliners has been locally crafted and provides an earthy feel.

The design was an attempt to create an intelligent distribution of space with the aim of having a comfortable, intimate interior atmosphere for a family of chartered accountants. Natural teak wood finish liked by all in the family was the main feature element. Other materials were introduced to ensure layers of textures, materials, and colours to compliment the home.

The altar of the Convent Chapel was redesigned. The Tabernacle was kept in a prominent position. As in the convent traditions, the crucified Christ along with the statue of the Blessed Mary to the left of the Christ was positioned in the wall with utmost reverence. The indirect lighting at the appropriate locations added the required ambience to the atmosphere of prayers of the nuns.
